Down under, ‘King’ Kohli is thunder: Why Aussies are going gaga over Virat

Virat Kohli

The Australians are doing the unthinkable. They are actually lionising the Indian cricket captain, calling him ‘King’ Kohli and using the footage around his exploits with the bat to ask if he will be the first ever Indian Test captain to win a series in Australia. Fox Sports, the official Australian broadcaster for the forthcoming tour of India Down Under, has been running a promo film over the past few days celebrating the success of Virat Kohli, and portraying what a visual delight he is to watch as a batsman.

The accompanying digital campaign centres around ‘Will @imVkohli reign supreme in Australia! #FoxCricket’. But it is the TV commercial that is more effusive. A collage of spectator shots interspersed with Kohli’s batting footage has supers that say, ‘The King is coming’, ‘The World’s Best Batsman Is on Fire’, ‘Fastest ever to 10,000 ODI runs’, ‘2018 ODI Average 133.5’, ‘The first India Test Captain To Win a Series in Australia?’, ‘See every Ball of Kohli this Summer’, ‘Only on FOX Cricket’, ‘King Kohli Australia’, ‘T20 Series begins Wednesday Nov 21’.

PM Jan Arogya Yojana a game-changer, but it will face these huge challenges

Modicare, Healthcare

There is no doubt that the Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) is the biggest effort ever by any government anywhere in the world to provide health cover. To begin with, the scheme provides assurance up to Rs 500,000 to more than 500 million beneficiaries in the country. There is no limitation of family size. This goes well beyond the cover of Rs 30,000 and family size limited to five under the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) launched in 2007.

The government has also put in place an extremely competent team to implement the scheme that has the potential of transforming health care in the country. The traditionalists who have lived with and promoted unadulterated supply-side management of health care would question this approach, but we know what this obsession with supply-side management has done to health care in India. Hence, there is a need to put the money (read entitlement) in the hands of the consumer and allow him to choose between public and private players providing health care. The benefits are portable and the beneficiary can avail of them from any empanelled hospital anywhere in the country. The scheme has started with a bang, with beneficiary numbers rising to 7,000 in a day — quite remarkable indeed!

The scheme will, however, face the real test now as the demands on the health infrastructure as well as the software backbone (borrowed from Andhra’s Arogyashree) will increase. True success will be determined by the ability of the scheme to bring down out-of-pocket expenditure. Let us look at some of the challenges that the scheme is likely to face.

Rafale price can be discussed only if facts on deal can be made public: SC

Rafale jet deal

The Supreme Court Wednesday said any discussion on pricing of the Rafale fighter jets can only take place if the facts on the deal are allowed to come in the public domain.

“The decision we need to take is whether to bring the fact on pricing in public domain or not,” a bench headed by the Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said.

The bench, also comprising justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph, told Attorney General K K Venugopal that without bringing the facts in public domain, there was no question of any debate on pricing.

However, the bench clarified to the attorney general that any discussion on price will be considered if it thinks that it should come in the public domain.

The top court also sought the assistance of any Air Force officer on the issue of procurement of 36 Rafale fighter jets from France.

“We are dealing with requirements of the Air Force and would like to ask an Air Force officer on the Rafale jet. We want to hear from an Air force officer and not the official of the Defence Ministry on the issue,” the bench said when Venugopal commenced his arguments on behalf of the Centre.

Venugopal told the bench that an Air Force officer would be reaching within a few minutes.

The attorney general in his arguments defended the secrecy clause related to the pricing of Rafale jets saying,”Our adversaries may get advantages if the entire details on the pricing is disclosed.”

Refusing to divulge details on the pricing aspect, Venugopal said he would not be able to assist the court further on the pricing issue.

“I decided not to peruse it myself as in a case of any leak, my office would be held responsible,” he said.

Children’s Day 2018: Google doodle inspires children to explore space

Childrens day, google doodle

Google on Wednesday celebrated Children’s Day in India with a doodle inspiring children to explore space. This year, the search engine’s theme for the day’s doodle was “What Inspires You”.

A student from Mumbai, who won the 2018 Doodle 4 Google competition showed her fascination with space exploration. The doodle shows a child looking at a sky dotted with stars with a telescope.

Pingla Rahul created galaxies, planets and spacecraft to represent the vastness of things in space — carefully arranged to form letters in the Google logo.

There were four more group winners that Google chose: a doodle on farmers, animals, wise monkeys and a study desk, the Google blogpost said.

The winners were chosen by Arun Iyer, famous artist and YouTube Kids Creator Harun Robert, India’s leading YouTube Creator Sejal Kumar and the Google Doodles team lead Ryan Germick. Rahul received 300,000 votes from people.

India celebrates Children’s Day November 14 as a tribute to her first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who was born on the day in 1889.

OnePlus 6T review: Blurring lines between midrange and premium smartphones

OnePlus 6T review, oneplus 6t price in india, oneplus 6t amazon, oneplus 6t specification, oneplus 6 features, battery capacity of OnePlus 6T, thunder purple oneplus 6t

Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has in the past few years emerged as one of the most successful premium mobile phone brands. Known for its flagship devices with top-of-the-line specifications at competitive pricing, the smartphone maker seems to have lived up to the name with the recent launch of the OnePlus 6T.

A successor to the OnePlus 6T review, launched earlier this year, the T-edition has got several upgrades. Most of the newer changes – a higher battery capacity, a new screen format and an in-display fingerprint sensor – are useful. However, the phone might have cut corners on a few flagship features, such as ingress protection (IP) rating for water and dust resistance, stereo speakers, HDR display and wireless charging. The OnePlus 6T has also done away with the 3.5mm audio output jack which might not go well with users accustomed to wired headsets.

Design

The OnePlus 6T might look almost identical to its predecessor, but it has a bigger screen, no fingerprint sensor on the back, and no 3.5mm audio jack at the bottom. These three are the most noticeable differences between the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T. Though the latter has a bigger 6.4-inch screen – compared with the predecessor’s 6.28-inch – the dimension and overall form factor change is incremental, thanks to the new format display stretching from edge to edge, leaving no bezels except a thin one at the bottom chin. The removal of the fingerprint sensor from the back for an in-display fingerprint sensor makes the back uniform. The bottom, without a 3.5 audio jack, now has five-holes grilles on either side of the USB type-C data transfer, charging and audio output port.

The newer phone otherwise looks and feels similar to the older one. It continues with a glass-metal-glass design language, which is slick but premium nonetheless.
